Toothpaste Map 9/10/20

Blog Post 9.11- Toothpaste Map Project These pages show my sketches and brainstorming for my Toothpaste map (showing how to get from Stamps, Room 2420 to my house/bathroom at 924 Sylvan Ave). The first few pages are my ideas and sketches, working through the route I wanted to go for this map and the different symbols I was planning to use. I also include references in these notes, specifically about Giorgia Lupi’s talk. The last image is the final map I turned in for the assignment. Looking back at my brainstorm sketches, I find that I didn’t seem to work through many drastically different ideas. I took a pretty logical approach to this map assignment and really chose to focus on just using the necessary information. I started with a quick look on Google Maps to see what the route looks like visually and started to design my map from there. Moving Forward Plans

I am making progress with my infographic and am really liking the direction. I think I started off really slow in how I wanted to present implication and how I wanted to show that plastic is bad, but I am on the right track now. I’m really happy with the new deadlines that Hannah announced because it gives me more time to fully flesh out the infographic as well as starting a new and exciting fun mini project. Below is my most recent progress on my infographic. I have taken away the full circle of plastic generated and am now just focusing on the scale between the different places plastic is going. My main focus is to show the striking difference between how much plastic is recycled vs. how much ends up in landfills and therefore negatively affects the environment. I am also trying to use text to further explain why the plastic in the oceans and the CO2 emissions is bad, but need to find a better way to do this at first. 2nd Design Iteration- Waaaay Too Color Crazy

Blog Post 10.2.20 At this point in the project I will honestly say I am stuck, or somewhat in a funk. These are my iterations that I presented in class on Wednesday, 9/30/20 and I am not happy with them at all. These are 4 different banner designs to be used in each dorm. The order from left to right is the order in which I designed them. They are a bit all over the place and messy and not indicative at all of the work I’d like to be creating for this project. So looking back at them and after critique, I do realize there are redeeming qualities to these banners. A lot of the feedback I got during critique was that the information is legible in terms of layout and composition however it’s the color choice and layering that doesn’t work, and I completely agree. These designs were made over time and I think more so out of my wanting to produce SOMETHING even if I wasn’t necessarily happy with the outcome.
