Moving Forward Plans

I am making progress with my infographic and am really liking the direction. I think I started off really slow in how I wanted to present implication and how I wanted to show that plastic is bad, but I am on the right track now. I’m really happy with the new deadlines that Hannah announced because it gives me more time to fully flesh out the infographic as well as starting a new and exciting fun mini project. Below is my most recent progress on my infographic. I have taken away the full circle of plastic generated and am now just focusing on the scale between the different places plastic is going. My main focus is to show the striking difference between how much plastic is recycled vs. how much ends up in landfills and therefore negatively affects the environment. I am also trying to use text to further explain why the plastic in the oceans and the CO2 emissions is bad, but need to find a better way to do this at first. Toothpaste Map 9/10/20

Blog Post 9.11- Toothpaste Map Project These pages show my sketches and brainstorming for my Toothpaste map (showing how to get from Stamps, Room 2420 to my house/bathroom at 924 Sylvan Ave). The first few pages are my ideas and sketches, working through the route I wanted to go for this map and the different symbols I was planning to use. I also include references in these notes, specifically about Giorgia Lupi’s talk. The last image is the final map I turned in for the assignment. Looking back at my brainstorm sketches, I find that I didn’t seem to work through many drastically different ideas. I took a pretty logical approach to this map assignment and really chose to focus on just using the necessary information. I started with a quick look on Google Maps to see what the route looks like visually and started to design my map from there. First Prototypes- Word Choice and Purpose

  Blog Post 9.25 First Prototypes In our critique on Wednesday, I showed my design process so far for the wayfinding system for undergraduate students living in the dorms to get to their polling place. I showed 2 iterations of my banner design, an example of how I intend to transfer that to a corresponding poster at the polling location, and a draft of a possible map design. None of these iterations are very finalized or near to completion yet in terms of design, but I was mostly playing around with layout of information and what the language/information will actually look like. Looking back at what I presented, I understand Hannah’s point about the importance of the language I use. I was really focused on keeping all the text very informational and to the point, but I think with this mentality I became too concrete and didn’t think enough about the significance of my word choice and how that relates to the viewer.
